Need a reason to head to Western Canada? The Whistler Village Beer Festival takes place at the Whistler Olympic Plaza Sept. 11–16, for a six-day celebration of craft brewing. Enjoy cask nights, beer battles, culinary evenings and tasting events.

Live music rings off the mountainsides, as the event offers access to more than 60 breweries and samples of more than 130 beers and ciders; 10 beer tokens; an official Whistler Village Beer Festival sampling mug; and access to food vendors and exhibitors.

Among the breweries in attendance will be Fuggles & Warlock Craftworks, BC Tree Fruits Cider Co., Lighthouse Brewing Co., The Parkside Brewery, Moody Ales, Salt Spring Island Ales, Steel & Oak Brewing Co. and Yellow Dog Brewing Co.

Not too far away, Sept. 14 brings the TELUS Golf Classic to the Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club. Take part yourself — the event begins with a traditional Texas Scramble with plenty of activities and tastings held on the course. The entry fee for the 18-hole scramble includes a greens fee, power cart, range balls, a welcome gift package, a sleeve of golf balls, a picnic lunch, refreshments on the course, sweepstakes ticket, reception appetizers, live entertainment and a buffet dinner. Registration begins at 10 a.m., with an 11:30 a.m. shotgun start.

Cost is $1,800 per foursome. Immediately following play, an after-party sponsored by Samsung will be held in the Frontenac Ballroom at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler Hotel.
