The Shangri-La Hotel in central Tokyo hosts a Ministry of Crab pop-up in collaboration with television personality and Chef Dharshan Munidasa, Sept. 25–28. The five-course menu showcases fresh Sri Lankan crab and local seafood, prepared with Japanese flair. Dishes include Pepper Crab alongside a sauce seasoned with hand-crushed and whole black peppercorns; Crab Liver Paté; and Garlic Chili Crab served on kade bread and prepared with Italian olive oil, garlic, Sri Lankan chili flakes and Japanese soy sauce.

Chef Munidasa’s Ministry of Crab has been on a tour incorporating London, Sydney, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and Maldives. The Tokyo pop-up, located at The Pavilion on Level 27 of the Shangri-La Hotel, offers four services each night for 20 guests per seating at 6, 7, 8 and 9 p.m. Pricing per person is JPY18,000 (about $162), excluding beverages.

The hotel recently opened L’Aperitivo bar and dining venue, where guests enjoy Italian before-dinner drinks and nibbles. On the menu, selections include Sicilian arancini and authentic Italian meatballs, Parma ham, homemade sardines and marinated eggplant. At the bar, guests sip from a selection of fine Italian wines, or enjoy a cocktail such as the Melo-ni, a drink inspired by Harry’s Bar in Venice served up with a Tokyo twist; or the Spritz, a spin on the classic spritz prepared with Aperol, Prosecco, pink grapefruit and tonic.

High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
