The popular Chinese destination of Zhouzhuang recently became home to a new country resort, Xiangcun Qizhuang. Instead of staying in new or refurbished construction, guests stay in local village residences no longer in use. The resort intends for this to add a more authentic, private and immersive feel to guest stays.

“Zhouzhuang water town receives a large number of tourists every year from around the world. People have experienced the jolly and noisy festival celebrations, enjoyed good shows and even joined the locals in making food and farming projects, but Xiangcun Qizhuang is offering an entirely new experience that is contrary to the bustling streets. Visitors can find themselves in real vintage residences that have preserved the authentic pastoral lifestyle,” said Zhang Qianqian, operations manager, Xiangcun Qizhuang.

Each house includes vintage and antique furnishings and décor from the traditional kitchen hearths to the peaceful courtyards. Despite the close-to-nature feel, the resort does offer modern amenities and full butler service, to ensure guests enjoy a relaxing stay.
