Japan Airlines and China Eastern Airlines made their intentions to pursue and establish a joint venture clear in a memorandum of understanding.
The partnership between the airlines began with a codeshare agreement for China and Japan in 2002. The new agreement will include 50 cities in Japan and more than 80 cities in China.
“We are delighted to announce that China Eastern and JAL plan to broaden our partnership in each market. We look to bring more benefits, more choices, and more value to our customers. We believe this partnership will generate more passenger traffic between the two countries and open up commercial opportunities,” said Yoshiharu Ueki, chairman, Japan Airlines.
If regulatory bodies approve the agreement, the airlines will offer travellers between the nations more options than ever during the 2019 fiscal year.
