Business Travelers Go Rogue

According to a recent study by Egencia, business travelers are going rogue with bookings.

Despite the wide use of travel policies worldwide, rogue booking — the practice of business travelers booking outside their travel program — is still an issue for corporate travel programs, especially when it comes to hotel stays.

While 60 percent of companies have a travel policy in place, more than half of business travelers surveyed are still allowed to book travel using methods they choose, and 46 percent have done so for hotel bookings.

To reign in the rogue booking habits, the study suggests clearer policies for corporate travel programs.

Reasons reported for going rogue are hotels are too far from relevant meeting points and price. Of those surveyed, 37 percent reported they were able to find a better price for a hotel within their per diem, and 42 percent found closer hotels to their destinations.

According to the study, incentives for staying within corporate travel policies vary by region, but globally, monetary rewards prove the most likely incentive to encourage travelers to book within the policy. More than 60 percent of business travelers say they would book within policy if they received savings for booking below the cap or received funds to apply to other travel options.

While business travelers may benefit, rogue bookings pose challenges for corporations. When booked through the company’s travel program, travel planners are able to easily locate travelers in an emergency and create cost efficiencies long-term. According to GBTA, 79 percent of travel managers acknowledge using a travel management company leads to more efficient processes and drives savings.

Hyatt Centric Las Olas Review

Today’s Fort Lauderdale is not the one you or your older relatives experienced in college; while beachfront surf shops along Fort Lauderdale Boulevard recall that colorful Spring Break era, Las Olas Boulevard embodies the city’s recent glow-up, particularly after the pandemic. In fact, it was spring 2020 when Hyatt Centric Las Olas opened its doors and played a major role in reshaping and rethinking Fort Lauderdale as a relaxed but lively vacation or business destination.
