Here’s some not-so-surprising news: Taxis are falling out of favor with business travelers, who are using ride-hailing services Uber and Lyft at a higher rate than they are taxis. Travel and expense website Certify showed in a first quarter report last month that Uber and Lyft are enjoying astronomical growth among corporate travelers. For example, in the first quarter of 2014, ride hailing accounted for only 8 percent of business travelers’ transportation use. This year, though, car rentals and taxi services took a dive, and now ride-hailing services make up 46 percent of transportation use. Uber remains the top choice for business travelers, coming in at 43.4 percent of the overall use. Ride-hailing growth is being seen in cities around the world, with taxi use declining. Part of the reason is convenience, with the ability to call for a ride quickly and easily via a smartphone app. And the other reason may be price: Certify’s report shows taxi rides cost $39.68, while Uber costs an average of $26.41 and Lyft rings in at $23.53.
