International, long-haul carriers pride themselves on offering free meals and snacks for their hungry guests, but shorter flights cannot always provide such luxuries. British Airways is one airline that has soared above the rest by offering small meals or snacks on short flights as well as long flights, ensuring no passenger goes hungry. But the complimentary English breakfasts available on brief flights across the British Isles and to nearby European destinations may soon come with a price tag. Most low-cost carriers in Europe provide menus of snacks and small meals passengers can purchase onboard, which in turn allows fares to remain inexpensive. British Airways plans to join these discount airlines in their meal service models while still maintaining its reputation as an elite airline. Despite the extensive menu of food and drinks aboard these low-cost carriers, frequent travelers have become so accustomed to not receiving free snacks on short flights most bring their own food onboard. With British Airways´ new initiative, the airline is simply following the status quo of meal service in today´s world of air travel.
