About a year ago, I completed my first month working with Global Traveler. From day one, I knew I had a truly unique job. By my second week with GT, I was dining in the Grand Ballroom of the Essex House with 350 guests at GT’s 2007 Awards ceremony. I toasted with CEOs and managers from the finest hotels, airlines and travel companies in the world. I met business partners, subscribers, various supporters of the magazine and family. I spoke with people who had flown from different corners of the world just for this event. I heard stories from clients who had been partners with GT since it first launched. I listened to Ivana Trump praise Air France for being the only airline that permits her to bring her beloved dog into first class. I realized quickly that GT was much more than just a travel publication. And even beyond the pages of print, above the glitz, the first class, the luxury and community of GT, there is another side to this magazine that is hard to find anywhere else. My first day of work began at our humble World Headquarters in Pennsylvania, where I had my first of many meals at the Yardley Inn with the East Coast team. As we sat at the table and enjoyed our good food and wine, I immediately noticed that this was a family. Fran’s wife, Michelle, joined our lunch to help welcome me to the team. I was even welcomed by our waitress, who had waited on many Global Traveler lunches and dinners. Now that GT is celebrating its 5th year benchmark, we continue to remain at the top of our niche. I am grateful for the team I work with and the opportunities that have emerged from this network of dedicated workers and passionate travelers. It is important to work for something you believe in, and it is important to believe in the people you work with. And I think that is something Global Traveler has successfully achieved for five years. Cheers to five years of friendships, relationships, trust and happy travels!
