The WNBA was all over Chicago leading up to Saturday’s All-Star game. Despite no Chicago Sky players in the game, Chicago fans came out in record numbers.
As I recently wrote, the Voices of the Game panel discussion at Avec downtown drew a standing-room-only crowd, with an overflow outside hoping to meet some of the panelists. This was just the start.
I went from there to meet New York Liberty player Breanna Stewart. I interviewed Stewart several times via Zoom, but this was my first time talking to her in person. The huge crowd limited my time with her, but it was great catching up a bit.

There were several other events, including
- WNBA Live Presented by AWS — A three-day interactive fan festival held at McCormick Place
- Practice — A Friday players’ practice session held at the newly opened Obama Presidential Center
- Skills Night — The Kia WNBA Shooting Stars event and the State Farm WNBA 3-Point Contest held Saturday at Wintrust Arena, home of the Sky. Led by Elena Delle Donne, Team Washington won the Shooting Stars competition. Rookie Azzi Fudd of the Dallas Wings won the 3-Point contest.

In addition to the Stewart event I attended, there were several other meet-and-greets with current players and legends. I just missed seeing my old friend Paloma Starr when she met Lisa Leslie and Tiffany Mitchell.

The main event was the All-Star game, of course. Played at the United Center, it drew an All-Star game record 19,783 fans, even more than the NBA All-Star game. Team Spoon, named for Teresa Weatherspoon, defeated Team Coop, named for Cynthia Cooper, 129–122. Also from the Liberty, Jonquel Jones came off the bench to score 22 points on her way to being named MVP.

Oct 23, 2026The Flight Less Taken: Unsung Carriers Whisk You Away to Far-Flung Destinations
The miracle of flight feels slightly less miraculous these days. Endless delays, cramped seating and shortchanged amenities feel par for the course, and one can easily forget the wondrous fact that you’re hurtling above planet Earth, soaring above the clouds and across the skies to your destination of choice. In the olden days, you were limited to the fallibility of your outrigger canoe or horse-drawn carriage. It’s not hyperbolic to invoke the invention of the wheel when reminding oneself to stay calm and carry on in coach.
