Twenty-four little hours. Sometimes that’s all it takes to reset and recharge. I tested the premise a few weeks ago when I zipped up to coastal Maine for an overnight at Inn by the Sea. Located about 10 minutes south of Portland in Cape Elizabeth, Inn by the Sea is among my favorite hideouts. Although it boasts easy access to Maine’s capital and the outlet shopping meccas of Kittery and Freeport, the inn sits on prime real estate just a short stroll along a meandering trail from Crescent Beach. Onsite dining options include Sea Glass restaurant (you can’t go wrong with the mussels and focaccia), a cozy fireplace lounge and, in warm weather, a spacious deck overlooking landscaped grounds and the ocean beyond. Then there’s the spa. While it doesn’t boast the expansive lounging area of some larger spas, it does have that indescribable essence conducive to total relaxation.
