Some of my best friends live more than an hour away from me; and although we try to keep in touch as much as possible, it’s not the same as spending time together in person. I knew I needed a change of scenery. I had been stuck in a routine for far too long, and I felt an overwhelming need to break free. I hadn’t taken a trip in a while, and the timing felt right. I packed my bags and headed to Virginia to spend the weekend with my friend.
I arrived in Arlington around mid-afternoon, and after a quick coffee stop and a few errands, I began to unwind. Even though I hadn’t planned on doing much that weekend, when my friend suggested dinner, I was more than happy to go along. We decided to check out Epicure on King, a cozy Italian restaurant in Alexandria. It’s one of those places that feels like a hidden gem, tucked away just enough to be charming but still popular enough to know it’s a good spot. Upstairs there was live music, filling the space with a vibrant energy that was a stark contrast to the quieter, more intimate downstairs. We started our meal with some fresh, warm bread — simple, yet perfect for setting the tone. As the night went on, we moved on to our main courses. I ordered the lasagna, and it was absolutely incredible. The attention to detail was evident in every layer, from the rich sauce to the perfectly cooked pasta. The meal was the kind of comforting food that makes you feel like you’re at home, surrounded by good company.

The rest of the evening and the next morning were spent watching movies, chatting and just enjoying each other’s presence. There’s something so validating about spending time with friends who know you so well. Sometimes, all I need is a weekend away to recharge.

Between these, cities give way to small communities with art galleries, local restaurants and shops selling beachwear.
