Van Nuys Airport is bringing tours to children. Via free virtual airport tours guided by the airport’s mascot, Vinny, children get a look at all aspects of the airport.
“Van Nuys Airport’s virtual tour program is designed to provide educators and parents with engaging resources for children to learn at home, while sparking an interest in aviation,” airport manager Flora Margheritis said. “During this challenging time, we hope to share our passion for aviation with young learners and inspire people of all ages to explore the wonders and possibilities of flight.”

Mascot Vinny will take children on a behind-the-scenes tour of the airport and a plane, other businesses within the airport and more. The tour will also include teaching children how the plane flies, as well as discussing different aviation career options. There is an option to schedule a live video conference with a pilot, air traffic controller, first responder, mechanic and other airport employees.
The Van Nuys Airport already offered a virtual tour on its website, but this tour is much more detailed, covering a wider range of subjects. Although the tour is aimed at children at home during the pandemic, its popularity is drawing interest from many schools. It is also attracting the interest of adults like me.
