On Saturday I flew to Toronto on Porter Airlines, rented a car from National Car Rental and drove to the second-largest London in the world, London, Ontario. London, Ontario, doesn’t exactly have the same metropolis feel of London, England, but I didn’t go for the sightseeing. I went to attend the wedding of a very good friend of mine. The wedding was spectacular. The bride and groom looked gorgeous. They were dressed in traditional Indian clothing, the bride in a red and gold sari with about ten pounds of jewelry and decoration, and the groom in majestic green. The guests were from all around the world. They wore Arab, Indian and Pakistani traditional dress. Each outfit was more colorful and beautiful than the next. Not only was it a beautiful sight to see, it was a refreshing change from weddings I’ve seen in New York City where so many women wear black. Most often I wear black in New York City, but you won’t see me in black at a celebratory occasion like a wedding! On Sunday, I had brunch with the wedding party then drove back to Toronto for my flight home. The Porter experience was pleasant, a flight I especially recommend for business travelers. The huge plus for business travelers was that we flew into Toronto City Airport. The customs line was very short, as we were the only flight landing at the time, and all the planes flying into the city airport are small. Once through customs, I took a two-minute ferry transfer to the city from the island airport. From there a free shuttle took me to the Fairmont Royal York in the heart of the city. The whole process from landing was about 20–25 minutes. On the return, the Porter waiting area was like a big lounge with a business center, with varied types of seating and free beverages and snacks. The only downfall was that we had to clear customs at Newark Liberty International Airport instead of Toronto Pearson International Airport, where U.S. Customs is cleared at the airport before boarding.
