It always seems to happen when I travel to Europe: my American Express credit card is compromised once again. I received an email from the fraud protection department alerting me to suspicious activity. I always call the telephone number from the back of the card rather than the number on the email to insure the notice is legitimate. I went through each charge and signified if they were charged by me or not; about half were false in the last few days.

The card has been canceled, and a new one will be issued; however, because I am traveling, I must call just before I return for the card to be sent safely.

Perhaps this will actually save me some fees as American Express processes these ridiculous international transaction fees for overseas expenditures. I turned my charges over to my United MileagePlus Club Card, which charges no transaction fees. Like a lemming, I tend to stick with the same card over and over. Perhaps this is the catalyst of change?
