I know we are all enjoying the Olympic coverage on NBC. The Brits are doing a wonderful job, and it appears all the security issues are behind them!

Here at GT WHQ, we are waiting for Vance Piccin to return from his work on the NBC broadcast. Vance is also Global Traveler’s special events film editor and creates our annual award presentation for our awards “do” — as the Brits would say. He created some great presentations for our clients South African Airways, Swiss International Air Lines, Asiana Airlines and Incheon International Airport (ICN). Vance won many Emmy Awards for his Olympic and sports editing. When he returns from London, he will go to New York for the US Open — he will be living out of his suitcase for nearly two months.

Here is a picture of Vance’s trophy shelf; at least one is missing — I am holding a spot for the 2012 Summer Games!

Vance edits the athlete profiles you see during the NBC coverage. When you see a profile covering Michael Phelps or another Olympian — that’s our guy Vance! He departed nearly three weeks before the event to set up. Vance was very much involved in the procedures for the coverage. I was privy to an Olympics conference call when Vance and I were driving to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to help my daughter clean out her college storage locker this spring. It was very interesting to hear the qualified team of professionals discuss the logistics, proper computer programs and equipment to use during the Games. I hear Vance is working on flatwater sports — rowing, canoeing and some kayaking. Keep an eye out for their stuff! Ironically, Mike Teti (U.S. rowing coach) is a St. Joseph’s University grad and a good friend.

I assume it is all working out fine in London. I hope Vance has time to find a good corner pub to relax and chat with our good friends in the United Kingdom.

When you watch the Games, remember all the people behind the scenes making your viewing pleasure possible, especially our guy Vance!
