Earlier this month I had the exciting opportunity to ski fresh powder for the first time in snowy Park City, Utah. As an avid skier, I look forward to any day on the slopes, but I was particularly enthusiastic about this trip, as it involved experiencing America’s largest ski resort. A $50 million transformation launched last year by Vail Resorts connected renowned Park City and neighbor Canyons Resort to create the largest resort in the United States, boasting 7,300 acres of skiable terrain. Though my group and I didn’t explore all 300 trails, 38 lifts, seven terrain parks, 14 bowls, six natural half pipes, a super pipe and a mini pipe, we did manage to cover a lot of ground and shred more than nine inches of fresh powder, thanks to helpful guidance from our knowledgeable instructors and a recent winter storm. Staying at the ski-in/ski-out Grand Summit Hotel in the heart of the Resort Village, we had convenient access to the picturesque Orange Bubble Express and Red Pine Gondola and were able to hit the slopes soon after rolling out of bed every morning. Highlights of my trip included skiing on my favorite run, the Harmony Trail, past the beautiful mansions of White Pine Canyon’s Colony complex; lunch at Miners Camp on my first day of skiing; and a dinner and distillery tour at High West Distillery & Saloon in downtown Park City. Located at the base of the new Quicksilver Interconnect Gondola installed last year, Miners Camp is brand-new this ski season and is an ideal spot for a delicious, filling lunch in between trails, offering fresh options like homemade bison chili and artisan salads tossed right in front of you. The world’s first and only ski-in distillery and gastro-saloon, High West is popular for its regional and seasonal flavors and flavorful cocktails. As the snow falls outside my office window in Yardley, I am missing the pristine peaks of the country’s largest ski resort and wishing I was still on the trails, but I look forward to exploring the most skiable terrain in America again in the future and highly recommend skiers and boarders visit to experience the results of the resort’s incredible mountain improvement projects. Stay tuned for more reviews of my trip in Global Traveler and at TrazeeTravel. — Monique Barrett, senior editor

There’s a lot happening on the beautiful island of Maui and recovery from the devastating fires in Lahaina is underway. Among happy events is a gorgeous cultural redesign of all the suites and villas at Fairmont Kea Lani, plus the opening of the resort’s Hale Kukuna — a 2,000-square-foot cultural center that focuses on sharing Hawai’ian culture, traditions and history, with the goal of a reciprocal sharing of ‘ike (knowledge) and mo’olelo (stories) that link the island’s storied past and vibrant present.
