Post-Graduate Life

by Holly Godbey

Aug 7, 2009

May 2009 marked the three-year anniversary of my graduation from Syracuse University. I can’t believe how fast the time has flown since my carefree college days. It feels like just yesterday I received my bachelor’s degree in magazine journalism. And, lucky me, here I am, three years later, using my degree at a magazine and doing much of what I studied in school. But, I miss learning. Maybe I am a big dork, but I miss going to school and sitting in a classroom, taking notes and engaging in thought-provoking debates with my classmates. I especially liked taking notes (I know, I’m bizarre!). Ask anyone I work with what my to-do lists look like, and you will get a clear idea of how neat and organized my notebooks were kept. I took pride in my notes and I enjoyed learning, practicing and developing. I also miss college life, but those days are, sadly, over. I have no complaints about my life post-graduation. I have a great job. I travel. I still live somewhat carefree. I have great friends, family and colleagues. I have an awesome dog. I have lots of fun. But, I still wanted something else. So, it’s time to take the next step. Following in the illustrious footsteps of GT publisher and CEO, Fran Gallagher, I will be attending St. Joseph’s University in the fall. I decided it was time to get my master’s degree. My biggest decision was which master’s program to pursue. St. Joe’s Writing Studies program was a great fit. The course load focuses on all different types of writing — screenwriting, fiction writing, children’s writing, poetry, business writing; the list goes on. Several courses also concentrate on teaching writing. I am eagerly anticipating the start of class on Sept. 3. And, as I am attending part-time, I should be fulfilled for the next three (at least!) years. -Kimberly Krol, eFlyer editor, circulation and public relations executive Global Traveler has joined the world of social marketing. New York City’s Penn Station to Undergo Massive Redevelopment

There are few commuters, residents and tourists who have visited New York City and never included Pennsylvania Station in their travel plans. The city’s Penn Station opened in 1910 as a Beaux-Arts masterpiece designed by McKim, Mead & White, modeled after the Roman Baths of Caracalla from the third century A.D. Of course, there was no resemblance.
