British Airways recently launched Airbus A380 service between Los Angeles (LAX) and London (LHR). A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to sample the exclusive tasting menu developed in conjunction with The Langham, London. I couldn’t share the menu or mouth-watering photos until after the first flight departed Los Angeles last week, so for those of you who’ve yet to try it, here’s a sneak peek of some of the items.

From London to Los Angeles:

Poached lobster with Charentais melon, mango and shiso salad

Chicken tea with goji berries

Braised pork belly and cheek with heritage carrots, peaches, pak choi and lemongrass and lime sauce

Seared scallops with pea puree, asparagus and truffle sauce

Praline profiteroles with quince 

From Los Angeles to London:

Chicken and morel galantine with spiced tomato chutney

Tomato tea with basil

Native lobster ravioli with grilled baby gem and japonaise dressing

The tasting menu was developed with an end goal of designing the right food for the altitude. The answer is simple, pared-back foods that are well-sourced. Finding a balance between a menu that doesn’t leave you overly full but prepares you to rest on the flight is key. The above tasting menu is paired with wines, and the flight crew is trained to serve and pair the wines.

Afternoon tea, modeled off the popular High Tea at The Langham, London, will be served on the London to Los Angeles route. The menu includes:

Egg and mustard cress mayonnaise in a bridge roll

Langham hibiscus and blackcurrant jelly

Lemon drizzle cake with lime foam

Mango and passion dome with almond sponge

English rose macaroon with raspberry and lime jelly

Valrhona chocolate brownie

Plain, raisin and orange scones with clotted cream and organic strawberry preserve
