A few weeks ago, while visiting my grandparents in sunny Boca Raton, Florida, I had the opportunity to take an in-person work-out class for the first time in about a year. This activity would be a weekly occurrence for most of us just one year ago, but these days it was like finding gold.

Given that restrictions are looser in the Sunshine State, one of my favorite workout gurus, Housework, put on an awesome, socially distanced Pilates/HIIT class on a Miami rooftop just as the sun went down on a Sunday evening.

With my mask on as I entered and checked in, I laid out my yoga mat on the pre-measured tape (six feet from others) and got to take in the marina view with a swirled sky of yellows, orange and pink tones as the backdrop. This class was silent disco-styled, so each participant was given a set of sanitized headphones that would provide music and the instructor’s direction.

I would consider myself quite into fitness, but this workout was far more about togetherness, triumph and the joy of finally being around like-minded people doing what we all love. I was so excited to see this program overcome the restrictions of COVID and find a way to bring people together in a safe environment.

Housework is paving the way for the fitness industry, and I am definitely looking forward to finding more ways to get out there and exercise in a safe way.
