At the 2014 GBTA annual convention in Los Angeles last week, I got a first look Virgin Atlantic’s new application for Google Glass technology. The British carrier is rolling out a new service in which members of the airline’s concierge staff greet passengers while wearing Google Glasses. Upper Class passengers arrive at London’s Heathrow Airport via chauffeured limousine, where a Virgin Atlantic staff member wearing the technology greets them by name to begin the check-in process. While viewing passenger information via the Google Glasses, staff can also offer weather updates, information about their intended destination and even translation services. Going forward, the technology may allow access to files listing passengers’ personal likes including dietary and beverage preferences. — Lisa Matte, editor in chief
