As I mentioned in my last two blogs, I was in Asia for the past two weeks on business. Last Wednesday, I traveled from Singapore to Hong Kong on Jetstar. This low-cost carrier is very popular and got me on this flight for less then SGD 200. The airline does not offer very many amenities, you need to purchase almost everything, and the legroom is pretty nonexistent, but for a quick three-hour flight, it worked for me.
I arrived in Hong Kong in the late afternoon, already looking forward to my stay at Grand Hyatt Hong Kong. When coming out the gate, I was met by the Grand Hyatt staff member dedicated to the airport. She helped me retrieve my luggage and escorted me to their car service that drove me directly to the hotel with no hassle of trying to find a cab or shuttle. I was secured a room on the their Club Level, staying on the top 36th floor in their Ambassador Suite. As common with most hotels, I was able to check in upstairs at a comfortable pace and led up to my room with my luggage very soon to follow. Surprisingly, the elevators did not require key access to the Club Level, and to get to the more private six stories of club suite, you simply walk down the hall to the second bank of elevators. Before checking in the they warned me of construction in the hotel during the week and Saturdays, but I have to say, I luckily did not hear one sound during my five-night stay.
The suite’s floor-to-ceiling windows showed off spectacular views of Victoria Harbor, with great boat watching all hours of the day. The room had a modern elegance, but with the warm colored couches, light wood desk and dining table, it gives a very homey, comfortable feeling. The suite offers two bathrooms, one for guest and the other straight off the bedroom. The bathroom was very brightly lit, with black and cream marble through out, a stand-alone shower, large tub, separate vanity area and the softest towels I have ever felt. The bedroom was large, with a low king size bed and great pillows. The mirrored wall in the bedroom behind the bed and in the living room gave me a lot of access to see my outfits like I do at home, which I appreciated a lot. The bedroom did not offer direct access to bedside plugs; however, the club level butlers were quick to find a solution by finding a long extension cord with five built-in plugs and set up on my night stand, giving me charge for the iPad, iPhone and iPod, all at the same time. The desk gives a comfortable chair, many plugs and converters for tech toys, daily paper and up to six codes for free WiFi.
I surprised myself by using the gym every night of my stay and this was largely due to the great equipment in the level 11 gym. The space has four open rooms and multiple sets of cardio and muscle equipment, so you will never have to wait or feel rushed.
I am very much looking forward to my next stay at the Asia flagship Grand Hyatt Hong Kong!
