I just played golf yesterday at The Grand Golf Club at The Grand Del Mar Resort in San Diego. The resort and course are a wonderful venue for those looking for a little break from Los Angeles; one can easily take the short drive south for a weekend visit. This is the second time I visited the resort, the last time just after the opening where I reviewed the course for Global Traveler (the review can be found here). The Tom Fazio-designed course opened in 1999 and was redone to become the Del Mar Golf Club. Many of the residents in the $2–3-million-dollar homes on the property call this course their club. Our caddie, Jessie, was a great addition to our game and was able to read every put and distance for our shots.
I was able to enjoy dinner at Amaya with a starter of mushroom risotto followed by a veal strip steak, which was out of this world. Club M is the dining venue for before or after golf, and Emily took good care of me at lunch with a steak salad with heirloom tomatoes. At the turn, we all enjoyed the signature chicken Caesar wrap and homemade chips; the dish was out of this world and delivered to us as we played on the 12th hole. I had a hard time concentrating on securing par while eating this fantastic wrap and chips! Addison is the signature restaurant, which I enjoyed on my last visit; Chef Bradley was interviewed a few years ago in Global Traveler (the article can be read here).
The one thing I haven’t done is enjoy the spa … perhaps I can reserve this for my next visit!
