Last night was the inaugural Red & White Ball, benefiting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter. I would like to both congratulate and thank all of those involved in planning and fundraising, especially Global Traveler‘s publisher Fran Gallagher, who served as co-chair.
The event was spectacular, raising thousands of dollars to help combat blood cancers. Many of our partners in the travel industry were kind enough to donate items to be used as part of the silent auction. A number of their products and services will also be featured in Global Traveler‘s annual silent auction, starting March 1.
The short video, Fire with Fire, that opened the evening’s ceremonies was especially poignant for me personally. It detailed the breakthrough treatment made possible only by the charitable contributions from LLS and followed the story of Emma Whitehead, a young girl whose life was saved by it. The clip brought back memories of my experiences raising money to combat pediatric cancer through another charity, THON, and seeing firsthand the difference that donating can have on the lives of those affected.
