For the holidays, Global Traveler employees were kindly gifted the Garmin Vívofit, a wearable device capable of tracking steps, calories and sleep. Each month we’ll be participating in an activity challenge with a reward for the employee who takes the most steps. Spotting several people wearing fitness trackers lately, I was excited to receive the device and become more mindful about monitoring my fitness. Setting it up is simple, and tracking activity is easy, with a button to the right of the display allowing users to toggle through the various screens. Each press of the button cycles through to the next screen, displaying accumulated steps, steps until you reach your daily goal, miles walked, calories burned, time of day and date. In addition to activity, Garmin Vívofit also notes lack of activity, motivating users to not be sedentary. The device shows a red bar across the display when users aren’t moving around that gets longer as users stay inactive. Additional help features include the Garmin Connect dashboard, displaying daily steps, sleep and activity when the device is synced online, and an internal battery designed to last an entire year.
