Thanksgiving is right around the corner — how many of you are planning on traveling for the holiday? Are you flying? Driving a long distance? Or taking a train or other form of public transportation? The furthest I ever traveled around the Thanksgiving holiday was the three-and-a-half hour drive home from Syracuse University. Other than that, it’s been a half-hour here or there or having Thanksgiving hosted at my own home. Travel is expected to pick up significantly this holiday season. If you are flying this holiday season, you will be among 24 million anticipated travelers. The season starts today, Nov. 19, which is coincidentally one of the busiest days in the 12-day span that defines the Thanksgiving travel period. The other busy days to watch out for are Nov. 24, 28 and 29. About 90 percent of airline seats will be filled. AAA predicts 42.2 million travelers will hit the road this year, an increase of about 5 million from last year. Before hitting the road, check your car and make sure you have an emergency roadside kit. Avoid as many snags as you can because there’s bound to be traffic. As I read and hear about all the travel projections, I have to admit, staying in the area doesn’t seem quite so boring.
