Galentine’s Day Plans

by Angelique Platas

Feb 6, 2020

This time next week will be the all-important holiday of Galentine’s Day. No, not a typo for Valentine’s: Galentine’s — when the ladies get together.

The first iteration of the holiday (that I’m aware of) was celebrated on NBC’s comedy Parks and Recreation (a decade ago), but the idea must have struck a chord, as the holiday certainly took on a life of its own.

With bars, restaurants and city events popping up to help gals and their friends get together for a ladies’ night before date night, it’s fun to see the different variations around Philadelphia.

One of our favorite bars in the city, Devil’s Den, is hosting a Galentine’s Night celebration, complete with local female comedians taking the stage for a night of stand-up comedy. Some are amateurs, some are widely recognized, but all are about Galentine’s Day and celebrating women — not a bad way to celebrate female friendships.
