My holiday travel plans this year put me in Amsterdam, arriving on New Year’s Eve with a scheduled departure just 24 hours later. It would be my first visit to a city that has been on my list for years.

When planning our stay, I deliberately opted to stay in a small, locally run inn rather than a larger hotel. With so little time, I wanted to have as authentic an experience as possible. Several websites and guidebooks pointed me to the Fusion Suites.  

When we arrived on New Year’s Eve morning at 9 a.m., the innkeepers warmly greeted us, and to our delight shared our room was ready. They quickly relieved us of our bags and showed us to our room. Just one of four suites in the entire inn, our room was located on the fourth floor. It was very spacious with a large sitting area, a desk and complimentary computer. The bedroom space featured a huge closet and comfortable bed. The bathroom had a separate shower, bathtub and generous complimentary L’Occitane bath products.

What a comfortable, homey space! Additional perks not always included in luxury properties included complimentary beverages, featuring beer and wine in the minibar; free WiFi; and a homecooked breakfast of crepes, apple strudel and fresh fruit.

Located next to Vondelpark, Amsterdam’s largest park, on the historic Roemer Visscherstraat, Fusion Suites puts you in an ideal spot to explore the city. You can enjoy the park or the museums, including the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum just footsteps away. Or you can head towards the city center and explore the Ann Frank House and the amazing flower market in just 10–15 minutes.

Our hosts provided us with a map and advised on the best things to see and do in the city. We couldn’t have been more thrilled to be staying just a little outside the hustle and bustle of the city as the fireworks celebrating the New Year went off throughout the day and into the morning hours.
