Currently, I am on an Airbus A320 en route to Fort Lauderdale for meetings with our wonderful partners in the South Florida area. I am flying Spirit Airlines, and as someone who is not a fan of paying for extras that should be included in the ticket price, I have to say today I have been very pleased with their service. I have flown Spirit many times before to get to my hometown of Wilmington, N.C. I normally fly from La Guardia into Myrtle Beach, S.C., which is not too long a drive from Wilmington. I can usually withstand the uncomfortable seat and lack of legroom on that flight, as it is only an hour and a half. Today, I was lucky enough to meet a nice woman at the counter named Veronica who noticed I was a $9 Fare Club member and kindly put me in an aisle seat of an exit row. I pay $59 annually for the $9 Fare Club membership; and although I have yet to see a $9 fare, they do have some nice price breaks during the middle of the week. As a member of the club, I also enjoy priority boarding and a price break if I pay $25 in advance online for a carry-on and $20 for one checked bag. I could justify the $59 annual fee with the difference in price for today’s flight alone, so to me it’s definitely worth it. 

The flight attendants are extremely pleasant and greeted me with a smile when I stepped on board. I was immediately helped with my carry-on and shown to my seat, which I haven’t seen happen on a low-cost carrier in a long time. We were late pushing off the gate due to the weather in New York, but other than that uncontrollable issue, everything has been excellent. I really do have an issue paying for water or a snack, but I suppose their business model has worked for a reason. If you need to conserve on a short flight, I would recommend trying Spirit.
