How do I get in that line?  

If you traveled domestically in the last few years, you have likely seen a line of lucky individuals breezing through security. These are not the typical express lines of the premium traveler. Individuals in these lines no longer have to remove laptops and liquid bags from their carry-on luggage. They keep their shoes and light jackets on. And they look a lot less stressed than the rest of us. 

TSA started the PreCheck program in in 2011. With the program now available at more than 100 airports in the United States, the TSA announced Monday further expansion of the program. So how do you get in? Initially there were only three ways. Members of an existing program like Global Entry or of the military were eligible to participate. As a frequent flyer of one of the following airlines, you may be invited to “opt in” to the program: Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, United, US Airways and Virgin America.  

However, as of Dec. 3, the TSA opened up the program to travelers wishing to apply to participate. The first application site will be housed in the Indianapolis International Airport (IND), with plans to expand to New York (JFK); Washington, D.C. (IAD); and Los Angeles (LAX). Keep an eye out for these application centers coming to an airport near you!
