Last night I attended the Ninth Annual Taste of Greenwich House.  It’s a wonderful event that brings some of the best chefs and restaurants of New York City together to benefit the Paul Singer Family Foundation.  Guests paid for their tickets to enter the pavilion, and there were numerous stations of delicious foods to be tasted — presented by the chefs themselves. Some of my favorite tastings came from the restaurants The Little Owl, Salt and Da Silvano. The star of the show for me, though, had to be Domodimonti Wines. I recently discovered the wines at the restaurant Salumeria Rosi and was thrilled to see other food and wine lovers at the pavilion sharing in the same enjoyment from the wines. They featured four wines, two reds and two whites. The common denominator that everyone seemed to say was how pure they tasted. I learned this is because they are, and the winery calls them natural wines. How could a wine not be natural? This vineyard uses the least amount of preservatives possible, leaving no acidic taste to the wine and no signs of a headache after drinking it. According to their website, “Our natural approach to the cultivation and conservation of vines typically exceeds the rules and regulations of organic farming. We focus on specific aspects of sustainable vine growth including water conservation, soil improvement, erosion control and the latest in Integrated Pest Management techniques.” I am not an expert on wine, but I have been learning more about it and growing my palate for nearly ten years now. I can truly say the above sentiments come through from the moment you taste the wine, and it is without a doubt refreshing in more ways than one.
