The Christmas season officially starts the Saturday after Thanksgiving in Chesterton, Indiana, where my eldest sister lives. This year I joined my sister’s family for the Twilight Christmas Parade.
The Duneland Chamber of Commerce sponsors carriage rides throughout the downtown area leading up to the parade. Floats and groups proceed down the parade route leading to Santa’s arrival on a fire truck. Businesses stay open late serving hot chocolate and other holiday treats. Even their dog, Sully, enjoyed the festivities.
The next weekend they came to my area for ZooLights at Lincoln Park Zoo on the near north side of Chicago. Running through Jan. 7, ZooLights includes holiday displays, interactive exhibits, photo-ops and much more, with animals, Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline as the backdrop.
Fortunately, we had mild weather for both occasions. Despite knowing cold weather is on the way, we all felt the Christmas spirit.
