As a Philadelphia 76ers fan, last week’s NBA trade deadline was a stressful one. There were rumors swirling about a trade deal for Ben Simmons, who hasn’t played the whole season, but no one knew who was going to go with him. The goal was to get James Harden from the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Simmons, but the Nets kept asking for more key players to come with Simmons. In the end, the trade ended up involving Ben Simmons, Seth Curry and Andre Drummond from the Sixers and James Harden, Paul Millsap and two first-round picks from the Nets.
I am not sure how I feel about the trade. I think it’s good we traded Simmons, but I think we are losing out by trading Curry and Drummond, since Curry was a big part of the offense. I do think we are gaining something with Harden — he and Joel Embiid will be a good duo on the court. After the trade, the Sixers were to be contenders for the finals. I guess time will tell if the trade was worth it or not. I am just happy my two favorite players, Matisse Thybulle and Tyrese Maxey, are still on the team.
As I am writing this, I am getting ready to go to my first game of the season, the day after the trade. I am excited to see the new dynamic of the team, how they will play and if the momentum switched. I don’t believe James Harden will play in this game, but I have a strong feeling he will be there and maybe even ring the bell (a Sixers tradition) before the game.
Here’s to hoping the rest of the season is filled with wins and no more drama! Go Sixers!

Phnom Penh as we imagined it stretches beneath us: a picturesque, low-rise mix of Southeast Asian and French Colonial styles. When the inhabitants of those buildings look back at us here in the Fairfield by Marriott hotel in Chip Mong Tower, they see the future.
