With the summer days winding down, I’ve thought back to some of my favorite moments from summer 2017. Here are some of my favorite activities and events from the past few months:
— Beach time in Sea Isle City, N.J., and Asbury Park, N.J.
— Staying at The Ritz-Carlton, Aruba on my first trip to the island
— Visiting Philadelphia’s outdoor beer gardens, including The Oval and Drury Beer Garden
— Celebrating my first wedding anniversary with dinner at Bibou
— Yoga on the field of Citizens Bank Park
— Hiking the Blueberry Hill trails in South Jersey
— Supporting local South Jersey wineries, breweries and farms including Willow Creek Winery, Tonewood Brewing and Beach Plum Farm
— First Friday in Philadelphia’s Old City neighborhood
— Phillies games
— Attending an outdoor movie screening of Clueless on the Philadelphia riverfront
— Yoga in the Philadelphia Art Museum sculpture garden
— Hitting up spots on Philadelphia magazine’s 50 Best Restaurants list, especially Double Knot and Zeppoli
Summer isn’t quite over yet, and I intend to enjoy the rest of the warm, sunny days before the crisp fall season starts.

In the late 1800s, eyeglass manufacturer George Washington Wells became the founder and owner of the largest eyeglass company in the town by merging with several smaller lens manufacturers in Southbridge, Massachusetts. By the early 1900s, Wells was running the largest eyeglass manufacturing company in the world, owning several factories in Southbridge and occupying more than 80 acres on both sides of the Quinebaug River. It was called the American Optical Company, known locally in town as “AO.”
