Just in time for Valentine’s Day, I got a chance to experience a sweet wine fit for the day of love. Bee D’vine honey wine is featured in the February 2015 issue of Global Traveler by our wine connoisseur, Eunice Fried, and the company sent me a few bottles to try as well. Sitting down with a glass was a delight. Bee D’vine set out to bring this honey wine, historically known as mead, back to the table. My bottle was the perfect sharing size, but one can easily polish off a bottle over a long dinner. My initial sip found me surprised by its dryness, but a smooth, sweet honey taste followed. Unlike most sweet wines, this is not over the top, allowing drinkers to share over a meal and dessert. The honey wine brute is recommended to be paired with seafood, like sushi and scallops; creamy appetizers such as artichoke dip; and dessert like melons and strawberries. I am interested to see how wine, craft beer and other spirit lovers feel about about a honey wine comeback. Maybe airlines will pick these up for travelers to taste?
