A Sun-Soaked Bachelorette in St. Petersburg, Florida

by Aoife O'Riordan

A few weeks ago I headed down to St. Petersburg, Florida, for my best friend’s bachelorette party. As maid of honor, I (along with the matron of honor) planned the entire trip, from selecting the destination to securing a vacation rental to crafting an itinerary to fit the theme of Margs and Matrimony.

I had never actually been to St. Petersburg or St. Petersburg Beach before, so I was beyond excited. The property we rented via VRBO was lovely. Located less than a mile from Indian Rocks Beach, the house was great for the bachelorette of nine ladies. With an open floor plan, various bedrooms and bathrooms, and a screened-in pool, it was perfect.Florida

The trip encompassed many amazing moments. One day we headed over to St. Petersburg Beach to spend some time under the sun. One of my friends and I probably spent two hours searching for shells and shark teeth. The shells on this beach are vastly different from the shells in Jacksonville. The water was also much calmer (and clearer) than the ocean we are used to in North Florida, so it was a welcome change.Florida

One evening we dined at Allelo, a Mediterranean/Aegean-inspired restaurant with family-style dishes showcasing the best ingredients and techniques. One of my favorites was the seared scallops over a sweet corn broth. The truffle arancini was also a flavorful choice and something I couldn’t get enough of. Some of my friends ordered a platter of oysters, which they raved about. After dining at Allelo, some of us headed to Glamper, a camping-inspired, indoor/outdoor bar with fun drinks like a s’mores espresso martini (complete with a warmed marshmallow over the flame). This bar was very interesting, the inside embracing a sort of log cabin aesthetic with dark tones and flickering lights.Florida

Another day we went to Indian Rocks Beach to spend a few hours in the water and on the sand before heading to V.I.P. Mexican American Cuisine on Treasure Island, a neat outdoor restaurant where tables sit beneath string lights and fans.

In short, the trip was one for the books, and I hope to return to the area again in the future to see even more of it.

Hyatt Centric Las Olas Review

Today’s Fort Lauderdale is not the one you or your older relatives experienced in college; while beachfront surf shops along Fort Lauderdale Boulevard recall that colorful Spring Break era, Las Olas Boulevard embodies the city’s recent glow-up, particularly after the pandemic. In fact, it was spring 2020 when Hyatt Centric Las Olas opened its doors and played a major role in reshaping and rethinking Fort Lauderdale as a relaxed but lively vacation or business destination.
