A perfect date on a perfect summer evening. That’s how I’d describe a recent Friday night when my husband, Kevin, and I headed into Boston to enjoy dinner and show.
Anyone who knows me — or who has ever read this blog — knows I love my hometown and its varied neighborhoods, but my hands-down favorite neighborhood is Boston’s Back Bay. We started the night at Bin 26, a neighborhood wine bar on Charles Street (technically Beacon Hill) a stone’s throw from the Public Garden and Boston Common. Perfect for a pre-theater bite, Bin 26 offers an unimaginably diverse wine list in addition to tasty small plates. We shared prosciutto and Manchego before tucking into delicious lobster ravioli.
With the sun still shining brightly, we strolled across Boston Common to the Wilbur Theatre to see Impractical Jokers (aka The Tenderloins), a sometimes-raunchy-but-hilarious improv group. (If our tastes in entertainment ran a bit more high-brow, we could have grabbed a seat on the lawn at the Boston Common to take in a free showing of Shakespeare on the Common.)
It was still early when the show ended, so we set our sights on the golden dome of the State House and navigated back across the common to Mooo at XV Beacon. The cozy bar has been among our favorites since it opened more than a decade ago.
We were home by 10:30 p.m. — early by most standards. But for us, it was a perfect date on a perfect summer evening in Boston.
