If you’ve ever longed to watch a team of astronauts lift off into space, here’s your chance: A new, exclusive tour from Seattle-based MIR Corporation provides 16 guests the opportunity to travel to Russia and witness the manned launch of the Soyuz spacecraft, making its way to the International Space Station. Dates for the 10-day expedition are Oct. 5–14, with a tour of Russia’s top cosmonaut training facility and trips to a number of UNESCO sites and space-related museums including the Energia space museum.

Participants meet international space officials and have the option of taking part in cosmonaut training. Activities include having a 4G experience on the TsF-18, the largest centrifuge in the world; trying out simulated space tasks; and slipping into an Orlan space suit, a Russian-engineered suit designed specifically for spacewalks.

The itinerary begins in Moscow and includes a visit to the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Star City — Russia’s premier cosmonaut training facility.

The highlight is an early-morning trip to Baikonur on the Kazakh steppe, where trip participants — accompanied by members of the press, families of the cosmonauts and military personnel —watch as the Soyuz Rocket is rolled out and delivered to the launch pad. This event includes VIP seating at the Crew Press Conference at the Cosmonaut Hotel. Prices begin at $14,495 per person.
