Thanks to a recent investment by rail company Société Nationale des Chemins de fer Français, European car-sharing company BlaBlaCar is slated to buy Ouibus, a French long-haul bus service and a subsidiary of SNCF.

In November, BlaBlaCar announced it would acquire Ouibus, a French bus company that offers reasonable fares to and from 300 cities in Western Europe, competing directly with the likes of Flixbus, which has a more extensive network, including the United States.

Founded 10 years ago in Paris, BlaBlaCar is now one of the world’s leading carpooling companies — since August 2017, its cars have driven 50 million passengers among 22 countries in Europe. Through the trusted network, travelers can book a seat in a car already traveling to their intended destination. Giving BlaBlaCar the boost they need for such an acquisition, BlaBlaCar received a recent investment of $113 million from French rail magnate SNCF, which is working to expand its network not only through train tracks, but also via the open road.
