Expedia.com released data showing the cheapest times to book flights for Thanksgiving and Christmas travel — 31–90 days out and 21–30 days out, respectively. Travelers booking during these time periods save around 10 percent.
“The busiest travel season of the year is right around the corner, and data shows us that early planning helps travelers save — especially on airfare,” said John Morrey, SVP brand, Expedia. “We like to inform travelers of these sweet spots so they can book confidently and maximize their savings ahead of the holidays.”
If you’re looking to save, the brand recommends booking your Thanksgiving travel before Oct. 22 and your Christmas travel Oct. 26–Dec. 4.
The study also found travelers pay most when booking six or fewer days out, as much as 20 percent more than the average ticket price.
For hotels, booking closer to your trip, however, particularly six days or fewer days out, saves travelers 20 to 30 percent. While waiting may cause travelers stress, it pays off as hoteliers look to fill unsold guestrooms.
