Lovers of luxury desert camps will want to check out the newly redesigned offerings at Baillie Lodges Longitude 131°, where architect Max Pritchard (who also designed Southern Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo Island) added day beds crafted from plantation New Guinea rosewood by Tobias Staheli of Spacial Expressions; Maxi Chairs by Robert Plumb of New South Wales; and EcoSmart fireplaces with bioethanol burners set in a stone within the private outdoor spaces of guestrooms. Overlooking the vast desert landscape of Australia’s Red Centre, outdoor spaces feature handmade luxury “swags” for two created by Country Sew ‘n’ Sew in South Australia — a modern take on the traditional bedrolls used by Bushmen. Comfortable swags with Australian-made canvas exteriors, an Australian wool and cotton underlay and a woolen insert are rolled out at night in front of the fireplaces, providing unobstructed night views of the stars overhead. The service includes nibbles from the resort’s chef, along with glasses of port, Cognac or other beverages delivered by firelight. Other updates resulting from the multimillion dollar renovation include beautiful new fabrics, designer furnishings, signature Baillie Beds, Gervasoni Inout ceramic side tables supplied by Anibou and bespoke indigenous artwork.
