Boston — or, if you’re a sports fan, the City of Champions — is welcoming chef Daniel Boulud to town. Bar Boulud, Boston, inspired by the iconic bistros and wine bars of France, has opened at Mandarin Oriental Boston. Boulud’s second collaboration with the MO hotel group follows his popular Bar Boulud at Mandarin Oriental, Hyde Park and his city bistro on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. The Boston location will also feature seasonal New England fare and charcuterie based on recipes by Paris’ Gilles Verot. Tihany Design’s Adam D. Tihany designed the marble-topped charcuterie counter seating for seven and the glass étagère with a zinc-topped bar.
The bistro kitchen will be headed by chef de cuisine Aaron Chambers, with a menu that includes classics such as coq au vin, handmade pastas, a selection of traditional terrines and a nod to America with grilled beef burgers. Special touches include creative pâtés and signature sausages. A wine cellar curated by sommelier Joe Camper boasts an extensive list from Burgundy, the Rhône Valley, Austria, Germany and the United States. Libations range from craft beers to handcrafted cocktails such as the Boylston Flip, with ZU Bison Grass Vodka, fresh pear juice, cinnamon, fig, egg white and a Kübler Absinthe rinse.
