Just in time for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil, Air Canada and Avianca Airlines have come together to establish easier and more frequent routes between Canada and the South American country. The two Star Alliance members enacted a codeshare agreement that includes flights from Canada to nine Brazilian cities such as Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Brasília. Travelers will be able to fly non-stop from Toronto Pearson International Airport to Brazilian destinations without having to change flights, re-check baggage or deal with out-of-the-way layovers. The new codeshare agreement also encourages improved and increased commerce between the two nations as more than 500 companies based in Canada conduct frequent business in Brazil. Other Brazilian cities included in this deal are Curitiba, Florianópolis, Fortaleza, Porto Alegre, Recife and Salvador.
