Atlantis Resorts debuts its first U.S. property at Ko Olina, on the west coast of Oahu, Hawai’i. The resort will be built on 15 acres of vacant oceanfront land on the Diamond Head side of Disney’s Aulani Resort.

The resort will be similar to Atlantis Dubai, with many planned amenities including Dolphin Bay, an interactive aquarium and a shark habitat, among others. The 5-star resort will have more than 20 restaurants, a nightclub, spas, salons and a fitness center. The resort will be a combination of hotel, condo and timeshare units.

The property could be the most expensive resort ever built with a price tag of more than $2 billion.

The Atlantis Resort is planned to attract millennials from all over the world. It will be designed as an “international destination for millennial travelers.” The resort will include hotel rooms with views looking into a giant aquarium. “This aquarium will look as the ocean looks. It’ll look as the sea looks today. You’ll be able to view it underneath. You’ll be able to interact with it, actually swim through it, and you’ll be able to learn from it in a natural setting,” said developer Jeff Stone more than a decade ago when the project was speculation.

High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
