Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport welcomed its 100 millionth passenger late last month, achieving a milestone never reached before by any airport in the world. The world’s busiest airport counted its 100 millionth passenger in a single calendar year on the morning of Sunday, Dec. 27. Larry Kendrick, a customer arriving on a Delta Air Lines flight from Mississippi’s Gulfport/Biloxi International Airport, was the milestone passenger and was rewarded for his good luck with a new Nissan Altima, two round-trip tickets on Delta Air Lines and a $500 gift card.

As for where he will visit with the free Delta tickets, Kendrick, an industrial construction worker traveling from his home in Biloxi to a job in Iowa, said, “I’ve seen a lot of the United States, so Australia is definitely in the mix. Dubai does sound pretty good, too. I don’t know — it’s up in the air.”

ATL officials created an algorithm based on actual passenger numbers from January through November 2015, and projected passenger numbers in December. Accounting firm KPMG validated the algorithm.
