The 52nd annual Israel Festival kicks off its month-long run May 23 as Jerusalem’s concert halls, stages and outdoor performance venues host the very best in dance, theater and music. The festival gets underway with an opening concert by Israeli songwriter Shlomi Shaban, who will perform with guests Asaf Avidan, Berry Sakharof and Ninet Tayeb at the new First Railway Station entertainment complex on May 23 and 24.
A sampling of performances by international and Israeli artists includes a 100th anniversary celebration concert of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring performed by the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra (Henry Crown Concert Hall, May 29); Dressed to Dance, a live music and dance performance featuring flamenco costumes from Madrid, including several designed by Dali and Picasso (Tower of David, May 30 and June 1); and a performance of Goldlandbergs featuring the Emmanuel Gat Dance Company in conjunction with Tel Aviv’s Suzanne Dellal Center for Dance and Theater (Jerusalem Theater’s Sherover Hall, May 25).
