On Dec. 3, one of the most-anticipated new hotels in London opened. The Mayfair Townhouse, sister property to Cliveden House, is dubbed as Oscar Wilde meets Alice in Wonderland, so it’s no wonder people were anxiously awaiting the property’s opening.

A collection of 15 Georgian townhomes on Half Moon Street comprise The Mayfair Townhouse; Goddard Littlefair was the design studio behind the hotel’s interiors. Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest was set on Half Moon Street, which, in the 1700s, was a favorite haunt of bachelors, bohemians and other artistic types. As such, art plays a central role in the hotel’s design. Minda Dowling, a leading art specialist, curated unique and unusual pieces to further bring each space to life. Clarita Brinkerhoff’s peacock sculpture is 67 inches high and made out of 25,000 Swarovski crystals.

All guestrooms include a complimentary minibar, complementing the many room amenities, including equipped workstations, dressing tables, luxury mattresses and bespoke toiletries. Travelers will find five guestroom categories, five suite categories, three signature suites and five multiroom accommodations.

The Dandy Bar is the heart and soul of The Mayfair Townhouse, telling imaginative stories through sophisticated cocktails. The Club Room offers all-day dining, alongside private dining and meeting spaces.
