Japan’s most technologically inclined airline is introducing a new way for passengers to streamline their arrival and check-in process.
The airline is the first in the region to introduce self-service baggage drop machines. It will introduce them at Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT). To start, the drops will be available in Terminal One’s South Wing. The airline hopes the introduction of these machines will increase efficiency and raise customers’ flight experience to a new level.
The terminal opened for use in mid-September for passengers flying internationally. Passengers flying to North America will be able to use the service by the end of the year.
Eventually, Narita will install the technology in each terminal. For now, the zone where the self-service machines are offered is called Smart Check-In Zone.
“ANA seeks to set the standard for the integration of technology that makes travel simpler and more straightforward, and the addition of these self-service baggage drop machines will have an immediate impact,” said Masaki Yokai, senior vice president, ANA.
