Good-bye elevator music. Hello heightened experience. QT Sydney is elevating its guests’ experience with lifts that double as “interactive installations.”

Upon entering one of the Sydney hotel’s five elevators, custom-designed software senses how many guests are occupying the space at any one time. The program then selects specific songs from rotating playlists to complement the number of passengers, time of day and assumed mood of the group. A solo elevator guest might hear Elvis Presley’s Are You Lonesome Tonight?

When a second guest boards, the song will switch to something equally appropriate, perhaps Bill Withers’ Just the Two of Us or James Taylor’s You’ve Got a Friend. As the passenger load increases, the program ups the ante with party songs like Prince’s 1999 and Deee-Lite’s Groove is in the Heart.

The elevators at QT Sydney also feature digital art installations by Daniel Boyd, combining elements of indigenous Aboriginal art with the European artistic traditions of Pointillism and Impressionism, fused through a unique digital interpretation.
