American Airlines plans to add new routes from New York City to the Caribbean and Latin America. Starting Nov. 21, American launches daily service from New York City (JFK) to Montego Bay (MGJ), Jamaica, and San José (SJO), Costa Rica. Starting Dec. 21, American launches Saturday-only service to Liberia (LIR), Costa Rica.
The route to Montego Bay departs New York City at 7 a.m., arriving at 11 a.m., with return flights leaving Jamaica at 12 p.m., arriving in New York City at 4:09 p.m. Service to San José, Costa Rica, leaves New York at 3:59 p.m., arriving at 9:42 p.m. Return service departs Costa Rica at 11:03 p.m., for a 5:19 a.m. next-day arrival. The Saturday-only service between New York City and Liberia, Costa Rica, departs New York City at 7 a.m., arriving at 10:55 a.m.; return flights depart at 11:04 a.m., arriving in New York City at 4:59 p.m.
A Boeing 737-800 aircraft serves all routes.
The new routes complement American’s extension of existing routes to the region. Extended service impacts routes between New York City (JFK) and Antigua (ANU) and New York City (LGA) and Aruba (AUA). Additionally, American plans to add a second daily flight from Dallas (DFW) to San Juan (SJU), Puerto Rico later this year, effective Dec. 18.
