AlUla, Saudi Arabia, is officially the first destination in Gulf Cooperation Council’s to be designated a Dark Sky Park by DarkSky International. This destination continues to commit to minimizing light pollution, preserving and protecting the nighttime environment, and ensuring its skies remain crystal clear for stargazers.

While much of AlUla promises some unforgettable stargazing opportunities, this northwestern Arabian destination has several extra-special spots to see the best of the best when it comes to the night sky:

Ashar Valley

The Dancing Rocks in Raggasat Valley

Hegra

One of AlUla’s most iconic historical sites offers both a window into the past and a gateway to the stars. Head to the hill overlooking Tomb of Lihyan, also known as the Son of Kuza, for optimal stargazing. By day, this UNESCO World Heritage site tells the story of Nabataean civilizations that once thrived in AlUla, while night transforms the area in a sanctuary for unbeatable views of the stars.

Rainbow Rock

This rock’s unique, arched shape makes for the perfect foreground for a night sky rich with stars. The rock sits just 90 minutes from the town of AlUla.
